During my Health & Beauty workshop of Part 2, I taught and share about my first encounter with Frankincense essential oil. It happened in 1996 at SOGO basement. There was a Japanese lady who used Frankincense in facial steaming for antiage. 15 years down the road, Frankincense is once again mentioned in one of the most famous health show in JAPAN.

Bryan's Frankincense Method:

> 1 drop of Frankincense oil and 1 drop of Rose Geranium in hot water for facial steaming. After facial steaming, do a hand bath with the warm water.

> 1 drop of Frankincense oil with water as a final rinse during shower.

> 1 drop of Frankincense oil with 5ml Rice Bran oil for a body massage.

History of Frankincense
The name "Frankincense" is widely known as an historic biblical ingredient, and to many as one of three gifts from the visiting Magi to the newborn Jesus and as an ingredient in the Old Testament's Exodus incense mixture. Few have experienced its aroma though or know of its rich history, how the world has treasured and used it since long before recorded time. Let's explore some of it together...

Frankincense has been one of the world's most treasured commodities since the beginning of written history. At its peak, its value rivaled that of gold, the rarest silks, and the most precious of gems. Ironically, it is but a milky-white resin produced by a scrubby, unlikely looking tree, genus Boswellia. There are twenty-five known species of Boswellia, each creating a water-soluble gum-resin with its own distinctive fragrance and medicinal properties.

Recent studies by an international team of scientists, including researchers from Johns Hopkins University and the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, have indicated that burning frankincense resin (Boswellia) helps to to alleviate anxiety and depression. The University of Munich found the anti-inflammatory properties of frankincense very effective as a treatment for joint pain and arthritis. The famous eleventh-century Arabian physician, Avicenna, recommended its cooling effects as a remedy for infections and illnesses that increase the body's temperature. Greek and Roman physicians used Frankincense in the treatment of a great variety of diseases. Frankincense remedies appear in the Syriac Book of Medicine, ancient Muslim texts, and in Ayurvedic and Chinese medical writings.

Burners and vaporizers
In vapor therapy, Frankincense can be used for bronchitis, colds, coughs and voice loss, as well as to calm the mind, reduce anxiety and cultivating internal peace and placing past obsessive states into perspective.

Blended massage oil or in the bath
Frankincense oil can be used in a blended massage oil or diluted in the bath for colds, coughs, bronchitis, rheumatism, chilliness, poor circulation, exhaustion, nightmares, heavy periods, respiratory problems and mucus congestion. It also has a good astringent effect on the skin and perks up older more mature skin and helps wounds, sores and ulcers heal properly.

Wash or use as a compress
To promote healing and prevent ugly scarring on wounds, add a few drops to the water when washing the wound. For cracked skin and bed sores, apply gently (suitably diluted) directly on to affected areas or use as a compress.
